Peonies

Posted on June 10, 2009June 10, 2009 by tjwise1954

There is so many things I want to catch up on but I thought I better start with my peonies. We have about 10 peony plants scatter throughout the yard. I absolutely adore the big, bold flowers BUT they just don’t last long enough! Plus, they always bloom during our late spring/early summer storm season, and if we get a substantial rain after the flowers have bloomed, we lose them all! We had a pretty bad rain yesterday, but fortunately they were just beginning to open, so it doesn’t seem like we lost any!

Every year my mom clips a bunch of her peonies, and hangs them downstairs in her basement to dry. She doesn’t use silicon sand or anything, and they always come out beautiful. She’s been known to just stick them in vases without water and they seem to dry out straight and beautiful. She then tucks them her and there around her house in the winter for a lovely affect. They also look wonderful just stuck into Christmas trees. So, I think tomorrow I’ll take some cuttings and try a few. In the meantime, here are our peonies… in all their glory!

Oooh, those are pretty. I like that dark pink color. Ours are light pink. Ours just started budding about last week, so we have another week or two before they bloom.
