All 8 of our hop plants surfaced and seem to be thriving. Although in full sun, the ones on the north side of the garden took a little longer to sprout. But as you can see by the pics, they are all looking healthy and strong! A couple of them are just about ready to start their climb!
Tim just finished building the supports for the hops. As you can see by the the pictures below, he built a brace that hugs the borders of our raised beds. He put 3 eyelets on each post that he ran twine through. The twine goes up on post (8 feet tall) spans the 18 feet of the garden, and down the other post. As the hops grown up the twine, they will hopefully meet in the middle. As the plants begin to weigh on the twine, we will probably need center supports. I think its going to look awesome to see these plants hanging over the gardens. I’m not sure if they reach their full height this first year, though.
Looking good! Kudos to Mr. Tim for job well done.
