No Stress Weekends

Posted on May 15, 2009May 15, 2009 by tjwise1954

Front walk planted with perennials and annuals.

I’ve decided against having a "Weekend To-Do List". My gardens are suppose to be relaxing and rejuvenating. There is no reason in the world to set myself up for failure! So, in that spirit, I am simply maintaining an on going to-do list in the side column. We’ll get to what we get to. (Tim will appreciate that!) Looking back at last weekend’s list there were many things we did not get accomplished because of time, weather and the whole bunny/deer debacle. It seems as soon as I put out my little seedlings, they are being munched on. I may have to stick with nursery sized plants, which I’ve done in the past, to at least give my plants a fighting chance!

Anyway, instead of focusing on what didn’t get accomplished this week, I did spend a fair amount of time in various perennial and annual beds. Here’s how the yard is progressing.

Shade garden planted with perennials and annuals.

Resident bunny with attitude tolerated because he eats very little!

Peonies almost obscuring the leaves on our new wallflower!

Hope everyone has a "gardenly" weekend! Relax, enjoy and take time to smell the roses! (That includes you too, Othy!)

I can’t wait to see your yard when everything is mature. Your shade garden looks like something featured in Better Homes and Gardens. I have a question. I noticed your path in the shade garden. Is that the cement path molds I’ve seen? If so, how hard was it to do? Especially curving it?

We used the concrete molds. Gentle curves are really easy to handle. I’ll blog about it in more detail later in the week. Watch for it!

I’m interested too! I was telling the hubby about it today as we have a little area that we are going to make into a bed and I was thinking that your walkway was a perfect way to outline the bed as opposed to the typical cobbles or railroad ties or whatnot.

Great idea! Ongoing to do lists are much better! Weekends are for enjoyment. Your peonies are twice as tall as mine. I guess that’s the difference between Zone 4 and 5. Do you use cages for them?

Yes, we use cages, which I’ll need to make sure I have on all of them soon. I adore peonies except I wish their blooms lasted longer. Also, I think they attract thunder storms because I swear every time they finally bloom, we get a downpour that makes them all droopy!

Thanks a lot, Christy! I’m assuming your weather is pretty temperate all year long. Your gardening season is so much longer! (All year?) We need to try to get in a year’s worth of gardening in about 4 months! I try not to stress, but so much to do, so little time to do it, hehe!

Kim – thank you so much for stopping by my blog! You made my day! Your garden is beautiful and I think a running to-do list is definitely the way to go. I’m looking forward to reading more!
